Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out (Jimmie Cox)

from Telephone Sessions Mixtape by Michael J. Karlin and the Parade of Horribles

/

about

This is an old blues standard written in 1923 by Jimmie Cox about prohibition times. There have been many great recordings of this tune, including versions by Sam Cooke and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. My version is simple and straight forward without any of the fancy guitar work that has been laid in the Eric Clapton version. I put it through some lo-fi to give it more of an old timmie feel, as I have always liked the way recordings of the early 20th century sound. If you listen close enough, you can hear my washing machine running in the background.
